Why retention data, specifically
Download counts and stream starts tell you reach. Completion rates give you a single averaged number. Neither one tells a programming director that every episode of their Tuesday show drops 22% at the 18-minute mark because that is when the second host takes over.
We built Shoutcast to surface the segment-level signal that already exists in the log files streaming networks generate every day. The data is there. It just needed a processing pipeline and an interface built for the way programming teams work.
The team came from streaming infrastructure, data engineering, and audio production. We spent the first six months talking to programming directors at independent networks before writing a line of product code. The patterns we heard were consistent: more data was being captured than was being used, and the gap between available data and actionable insight was slowing down every content decision.
